Introduction

The former Applied Mathematics Research Centre is the centre of mathematics and physics research of Coventry University. It is now part of the Faculty Research Centre on Fluid and Complex Systems. It is a dynamically growing group of researchers with a focus on two main strands of research, fluid dynamics and statistical and condensed-matter physics.

Research

Our research is focused on theoretical and experimental studies in statistical physics and fluid dynamics. In particular, subjects covered include

  • instabilities and transition to turbulence
  • turbulence
  • magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), electromagnetic flow control and metrology
  • geophysical flows
  • plasma flows
  • phase transitions and critical phenomena
  • disordered and glassy systems
  • complex networks
  • polymers and biophysics
  • econo- and sociophysics

More details can be found on the research pages.

People

While the Centre for Fluid and Complex Systems is much larger, the mathematically focused former AMRC has The Centre currently comprises 15 permanent members of staff. We constantly supervise around 10 PhD students and a number of MSc projects. Please have a look at the member directory.

Contact

We are happy to discuss research ideas and proposals relating to our fields of expertise. Please email us at  info@complexity-coventry.org or consult the directory to contact individual members. Instructions on how to find us can be found here.
