New lecturers in statistical physics

Nikolaos Fytas and Taras Yavors'kii joining the AMRC

With the beginning of June, the statistical physics group of the AMRC is strengthened by the new additions of Dr Nikos Fytas arriving from Madrid and Dr Taras Yavors'kii previously based in Toronto.

Nikos received his PhD from Athens University in 2009, and has since been working at the University of Patras and the University Complutense of Madrid. Nikos is an expert in computer simulation studies particularly of disordered systems, including the random-field Ising model.

Taras studied for his PhD at the Institute for Condensed Matter Physics under the supervision of AMRC visiting fellow Prof. Yurij Holovatch and graduated in 2003. He has since worked as postdoctoral fellow in Germany and Canada, and brings expertise ranging from field theories in critical phenomena over the physics of highly frustrated magnetic systems to high-performance computing on graphics processing units.
